Meet Laura Vanderploeg

About Me:
I grew up in the Palatine area. My husband, Dustin, and I have two kids attending school in district, Landon (5th grade) and Brooke (4th grade).
Professional Background:
Bachelors Degree in Spanish with K-12 teaching endorsement from Illinois State University and Masters in Educational Leadership. I have been teaching Middle School Spanish in Palatine for 17 years.
School Board Experience:
I have served on the District 3 School Board for nearly 2 years and am running for a 4 year term.
My Focus Areas
Student Support
I believe students should be at the forefront of all decisions made by the school board. As a board member, I am dedicated to students having the opportunity to learn from high-quality teachers who provide rigorous instruction based on best practice.
District Planning
I have served on the Strategic Planning Committee to help create a vision for our district that aligns with objectives set by our stakeholders. During this process I have worked collaboratively with administration, school board members, teachers, and the community. If elected, I plan to continue this collaboration and open communication to ensure the vision transpires.
Staff Development
In order to ensure excellence for our students, our staff needs to be supported. I would emphasize the need for effective building committees, ample professional development, quality mentor programs, and staff collaboration on curriculum initiatives.
